Jay Stash – 4 The Sistaz ft. TeePee & Ntsiki Mazwai

By Rapbuzz Administrator
Recently browsing through a South African hip-hop/rap website, I came across this track and thought that “Uhmm, Lemme give it an ear”. Very touching song I must say. It also came with an open letter written by the rapper, sent to Rapbuzz. It goes up as follows:

“… This is an open invitation for you to journey with me through my thoughts. Most of you got to see me perform ’4 The Sistaz’ for the very first time on SABC Live beginning of August. I have to say the feedback was amazing and incredibly overwhelming.

See the purpose for this song was to play a role in speaking out against the ills us men do to our mothers, sistaz and women in general. There is so much hurt & pain that we put our women through and I felt that Hip Hop needed a voice to touch lives, a voice to heal wounds which led to the release of the song on different radio stations to spread the word and plant my seed towards a better change amongst us men. My performance on Live SABC 1 capped off a week of myself as a rapper, father, brother and son speaking on the issues close to my heart pertaining to treatment of women.

What I noticed was how radio didn’t care much about delivering the message. The song was played on major radio stations but I felt that the crux of the message was never carried through. It didn’t seem to matter to radio presenters what the song spoke about. I found it sad that the stigmatization of hip hop as a culture that degrades women and is only concerned with bling seemed to water down the importance of the message of the song. The pre-conceived idea of what hip hop is and does led to the message being stifled.
This all baffles me and at times I asked myself if the message in the song would’ve had have more relevance if it came from a more popular artist. Would the song get a better response from radio djs if it was done by an artist in the spotlight and would this be the case because it was done by Jay Stash?

We live in times where everything is all in OUR own hands, where one can’t wait for radio to give him recognition. As it stands radio dictates what people should listen to and not what people want to hear. There’s so much talent that’s out there and i feel it’s all being slept on. There’s so many people in my shoes that don’t even have the opportunities I have and this is me speaking out for myself and them.

There’s so much talent in SA but if you don’t belong in certain circles your fight to get in this harsh and cold industry is going to have to be infinitely more difficult. This all led to my decision to make available for free download, this beautiful song ’4 The Sistaz’ Featuring Teepee & Ntsiki Mazwai produced by Cristyle Peter.
This song is a powerful piece. It was hard for me to decide to give this song for FREE even though it will be on the album but a tough decision had to be made to get the message across and not wait for radio. So I ask you my friends to do the same and share this song so to get the message across. They may not play it but the masses will demand it. This is #4TheSistaz. We Keep Marching. CHESA! .”

Enough talking thou! Download Link Below if you still don’t have it.
